Garden rooms: how to choose the right size?

We specialize in the construction of wooden houses for many years and still often face the attitude: the bigger house – the better choice. However, even if larger garden rooms do offer benefits, such as the ability to create bigger spaces or accommodate more friends, they also cause more hassle. First of all, it is not difficult to understand that the construction and installation of a larger garden house will always cost more. You will also notice the difference in regular maintenance of such a building – while renewing the protective layer of wood regularly or simply maintaining constant cleanliness inside the house.

How to choose the size for garden rooms?

Based on our many years of experience, we can ensure that both small and large cottages are great choices when they best suit your individual needs. For example, if a garden room becomes your second home during the summer, we do not recommend choosing the smaller option of the house. However, if you spend most of the summertime in nature, and the house standing on the homestead plot is mainly for sleep – investing in a large garden room has no sense.

Therefore, to make your choice easier, we recommend considering three main things:

  • how much time per year do you plan to spend in your garden room?
  • how often do you plan to hang out inside the garden rooms?
  • how many people do usually rest in your summer place?

Different sizes garden rooms – for everyone's needs

After considering all of the questions above, it will be much easier to decide which size of the wooden house would meet your needs best. We offer four size categories of garden rooms for our customers:

Garden rooms up to 20 m²

Nowadays, the small housing option is becoming increasingly popular due to much lower maintenance and, most importantly, a smaller construction budget. As a result, a wide range of holiday homes up to 20 m² can be found on the market. True, the design of such small garden rooms usually becomes a challenge – the room has to accommodate all the necessary amenities but also stay spacious enough. You should also think carefully about the purpose of the furniture in a small garden rooms. For example, by purchasing a sofa-bed you won't need to load the living area with furniture, or by choosing a more comfortable kitchen table you could use it as a work table.

Garden houses up to 35 m²

For those looking for a slightly larger and more versatile holiday home option, we recommend paying more attention to cottages up to 35 m². Based on practice, this cottage size can be called the most versatile choice for your rest – if it’s planned well, you will have enough space for a separate bedroom. The space of the cottage will also be extremely important if you plan to spend cold winter days in the log cabin as well.
