Summer houses: 4 mistakes to avoid when building

Natural wood cottages, still often associated with country-style homes, have become particularly popular in the real estate market in recent years. Both settlers (looking for a holiday home and a permanent home) have begun to appreciate the natural properties of wood and the opportunity to contribute to a nature-friendly future. This attitude was strongly encouraged by the possibility of creating a modern design of a wooden house, which is far from reminiscent of a rural hut.

Summer houses

In support of the changes and to facilitate the design of a modern log cabin, we have decided to share four essential mistakes that can easily ruin the interior of modern summer houses.

1. Avoid wooden ceilings

First of all, when installing a wooden house, we recommend avoiding natural wooden log ceilings, which are more suitable for creating a rustic style in your log cabin. Not the most suitable choice for a modern summer house is the ceiling, lined with small wooden tables, which usually simplify the interior as much that it becomes similar to a sauna or an old garden house. If you still give priority to naturalness and want to leave the ceiling wooden, we suggest not to be afraid to look for more original solutions. For example, the interior of the garden room could be completely changed by the unique color of the ceiling or integrated ceiling beams as an essential accent.

2. Avoid combinations of wooden ceilings, walls and floors

If modern-design summer houses - an example you want to follow when creating your home - you have to avoid the combination of wooden ceiling, wooden walls, and floors. Even if you choose different wood and furnish the room with modern furniture, it will be quite difficult to get a modern cabin style. The accent of wood is a real decoration as long as there is not too much of it, so in the case of wooden ceilings, it is recommended to choose another material for floor and wall decoration.

3. Choose your wood style carefully

When it comes to the choice of wood style for the interior itself, it should not be too small, not too carved, or wavy. Smooth, solid wood that is tastefully matched to the furniture, usually gives the interior more modernity. If required, it can also be covered with a color that matches the interior of the room. Dark-colored wooden walls, ceilings, or floors, which, due to their color, do not resemble natural wood, but retain their naturalness in the interior, can also be considered a fairly modern choice. However, for the cottages to remain not only modern but also cozy, dark colors should be used sparingly. The truth is, that too many dark elements can also create a depressing mood that will not be wanted in your home.

4. Avoid bright finishing colors

Last but not least, modern summer houses are difficult to match with bright colors, variegated patterns of gilded furniture. Although in this way the aim is to give the house an exclusive style, the interior is usually only complicated and sometimes even made tasteless because of this decision. The latter mistake is most often encountered when trying to create a truly exclusive cottage interior without consulting a professional.

Whatever style summer houses are designed, the furniture is a particularly important accent. To maintain modernity, the best result is usually achieved by choosing tasteful, minimalist furniture that matches practically any choice of floor, walls, and ceiling of the house. So, although turning a log house into a modern house has its challenges, the log itself is a perfect match in a modern house when combined with contrasting materials and colors, tastefully adapting the furniture in the room as well.
