When choosing a wooden house for our rest, we usually dream of the largest possible space in which we will be able to engage in all our favorite activities. However, the size of the plot, as well as the financial possibilities themselves, do not always allow expectations to be met.
But it is important to note, that the decision to build smaller summer houses does not necessarily mean that they will lack space. Modern, small cottages can be designed and equipped to make their living space look much larger than it is.
Probably the first thing that is especially important for the feeling of space in the summer houses is the chosen furniture. The truth is, we must be choosing it not only according to the function performed but also according to their appearance or style. Therefore, for those who want the cottages inside to look as large as possible, the massiveness of the furniture and the space occupied should be no less important criteria.
Saving a lot of space in the house could be reached by choosing wall-mounted furniture as well, which can be folded if necessary, giving the rooms much more space. Examples of such furniture could be desks, dining tables, or even beds. The truth is, if you still give priority to ordinary furniture, you will get a greater sense of space by choosing lightweight furniture. Such examples could be light wood furniture, furniture with thin metal structures, or furniture with partial wood accents.
We do not recommend furnishing small living quarters with load-bearing accents of stone or heavy metal constructions. To maintain the feeling of space, summer houses should be furnished with well-thought-out furniture – bright colors reflect well with plenty of lighting and give the room a sense of greater space.
One of the main things that makes summer houses look bigger is the well-planned lighting. When designing your future living space, we recommend not to save in any way. The right light falling indoors will provide more benefits than you can imagine.
Not only the correct arrangement of lights is important, but also their abundance and selected shades. Natural lighting will give you no less sense of space. It is worth noting that light walls, reflecting with artificial and natural light entering the premises through large windows, can also give the house the feeling of larger rooms.
To make small summer houses as spacious as possible, it is necessary to think carefully about the storage places. One of the most space-saving solutions is wall-wardrobes, which are usually installed during housing construction but can also be integrated into already finished homes. Although this type of wardrobe, due to its primitive design and layout, does not always give a lot of originality to the interior, it allows you to make the most of its storage space.
Occupying the entire wall area, such cabinets do not clutter the room (like large and heavy additional furniture) and allow to use the space that, in the case of a conventional cabinet, is left for dust (space under the cabinet and space at the top of the cabinet). It is also important to mention that this type of cabinet is cheaper to install, and its interior can be easily adapted to your personal needs – you can choose the desired shelf size or several drawers, decide what depth of cabinet you will need. Another fairly popular solution to save more space in summer houses of any size is a special room for less frequently used or larger items. Although such a room will require extra space in your home, you will be able to use it particularly efficiently for storing things. In this case, other rooms will require much less storage space, and the summer houses will become more spacious themselves.
